About Me
I'm André Cavalheiro—originally from Portugal, now based in the Netherlands.
I’m obsessed with building—not just software, but products. I love thinking through the problems they solve, the psychology behind them, and bringing that vision to life with clean, well-structured code. I document everything I build, and treat that habit as a way to collaborate with my future self. Turns out, it also makes me pretty damn good at collaborating with others.
How did I end up like this? Right after college, a few friends and I started Rely.io, where I spent the last 4 years growing the company from a $100K pre-seed to over $4M raised. I got to live the full startup lifecycle—wrote a ton of backend code, shaped the product, helped define its positioning, and authored most of the public documentation and blog content that explained why it mattered.
I hold a Computer Science degree from Lisbon, and spent a year at Tsinghua University in Beijing digging deep into machine learning and research. I freelanced my way through college on backend and data-science projects. I also worked in academia for a while—co-authoring a scientific paper on deep learning for geospatial prediction, and contributing to national COVID reports for the Portuguese government.
From experience, the biggest MVP mistakes are poor implementation and over-engineering. I can save you from both. I build lean products with just the right features for smooth performance and user love.
